Famous Places to visit in Madurai


1.Meenakshi Amman Temple


The Meenakshi Temple is devoted to Parvati, also known as Meenakshi, and her husband, Shiva. The fact that both God and Goddess are worshipped together makes this temple apart from every other.

The temple's most prominent feature is its magnificent exterior, which is rich in detailed features and integrates great art pieces into the walls and pillars. The temple complex is created in accordance with the Shilpa Shastra and includes 14 gateway towers or gopurams,' golden 'vimanas,' holy sanctums, and shrines dedicated to the beloved Goddess Meenakshi, among many other things. Thousands of worshippers visit the temple on a regular basis, making it a popular tourist attraction.

2. Kazimar Big Mosque


Kazimar Big Mosque was built in the 13th century, is Madurai's first Islamic place of worship. When Prophet Muhammad visited Madurai, Hazrat Kazi Syed Tajuddin, a descendent of Prophet Muhammad built it. Pandyan King Kulasekara gave him the land on which this mosque was constructed and many prominent Madurai Hazrats, like Hazrat Syed Abdus Salaam Ibrahim Rahmatullahi Alaihim, Hazrat Meer Amjad Ibrahim, and others, had Maqbara in this mosque. The beautiful artwork shown on walls and the fascinating architecture of this mosque make it all.

3.Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple


The Thirupparamkunram Murugan temple is one of the excellent places to visit in Madurai. It is situated in Thiruparankundram, a city of Tamilnadu. The old structure is architecturally stunning, particularly because of its rock-cut. The gods Shiva and Vishnu, who face each other, are another distinct feature. This feature defines the temple because Shaivites and Vaishnavites have always been two distinct communities.

Don't stop your exploration at the temple; go around the complex and view devotees feeding the fish at the nearby pond.

4.Pazhamudhir Solai


Pazhamudhir Solai is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Subramaniya, who is worshipped by many people in southern India. It is a marvelous temple with big steps in front of it and great sculptures of Lord Subramaniya sculpted in wood and marble.

People worship the temple by regularly walking around its circumference in hopes of having their desire answered. Subhramaniya is the largest and most beautiful holy place in southern India. It is situated on the top of Azharar Koil hills in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

5.Alagarkoil Temple


Alagar Koil is a wonderful temple in Madurai's northwestern surroundings. The temple is Lord Vishnu's resting place and a sacred place for several Lord Vishnu devotees in the region.

It is also known as Azhagarkovil and is located in the Alagar hills. The Lord's statue is totally formed of stone and is a magnificent work of art created from kallalagar. The ideal type of separate temples in southern India consists of a variety of statues in various poses of the Lord housed in the temple under the same roof. Devotees pray for the healing of the earth from the bottom of their souls. The temple has beautiful halls and other facilities for performing various rituals with spiritual mantras in a holy ambiance.

6.Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal


The Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal is a clear illustration with outstanding architecture and rich history that is maintained by Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department. This palace was built in 1636 by King Thirumalai Nayak and features grand pillars and brilliant stucco work on its domes and arches is a combination of Dravidian and Islamic architectural traditions. A tour of the palace, which is divided into two portions – Swarga Vilasam and Ranga Vilasam – will take you through the royal residence, workers' quarters, lakes and gardens, holy places, the throne room, and other important areas.

7.Gandhi Memorial Museum


Gandhi Memorial Museum was once a palace built in 1670 A.D. by Rani Mangammal of the Naick dynasty. The Government of Tamil Nadu gave this magnificent palace to the All India Gandhi Smarak Nidhi for the purpose of building the Gandhi Memorial Museum. This museum is made up of several treasures that give visitors a glimpse into Mahatma Gandhi's life and many historical key events. It is spread out across 13 acres of land. On a regular basis, a variety of activities are also conducted here.

8.Samanar Hills


Samanar Hills is located near Keelakuilkudi village, 12 kilometers from Madurai. The Archaeological Survey of India has declared it as a protected monument. This hill has a strong tradition of historical and religious significance, going back to the first century A.D. Some inscriptions on the rocks here mention the existence of Jain monks who are claimed to have stayed in the caves. Along with their religious significance, the Samanar Hills are known for their stunning views.
